A competition interface flow for students to win free Uber rides

Description

Save the Student has a loyal user base of students across the country who rely on their website and social media to deliver great promotions, tips and saving techniques. As the company were rolling out a new website interface, they required a new user experience for the competition flow to become coherent with the new look and feel.

A responsive competition experience for students to enter via Facebook and a form workflow.

UX design

The client needed a templated approach which could be used for future competition launches for major brands including Uber. We created a grid to accommodate for this which included a main content area and sidebar for previous winner and countdown modules.

To further engage the user we used strong and emotive imagery of a young woman enjoying a car journey; the user would relate to this scenario and interact. Through optimising the step-by-step forms to become as short and as simple as possible, this would allow quick completion of the entry quicker and without becoming disorientated within many steps.

Two main techniques were used to engage the user during the form process - social proof with a previous winner module, and scarcity - showing the time restraints attached to the competition entry.
Ensuring users gained the most chances of winning, we designed a step for further entry opportunities with smooth interactions to bring users into the relevant journey and back to the competition, for example, filling out paid surveys to gain further entries.

Mobile design

As the majority of the target user group access the competition via sponsored Facebook posts on their mobiles or landing on their website, it was clear that we needed to ensure the mobile designs were optimised fully throughout, with immersive interactions such as JS animation. We built the designs using HTML and CSS which ensured quality control from the beginning to the end of the project.

Moken were great to work with. The team understood the requirements and took true ownership of the project adding in valuable advice. I would recommend Moken as their services and delivery was second to none.
